These non-medicinal ingredients are also used to stop powdered products from caking or lumping in a container after manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thickeners\u00a0<\/strong>are used to make a product thicker and to make a product easier to swallow. It can be used as a thickener, emulsifier, preservative, or a flowing agent. While unprocessed carrageenan is not carcinogenic, some studies have shown that degraded carrageenan may be cancer causing. Carrageenan may cause irritation and inflammation in the digestive tract and reduced immune function.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_4,3_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243; border_width_bottom=&#8221;1px&#8221; border_color_bottom=&#8221;#e63888&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.7&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||10px|false|false&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glycols (propylene glycol)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;3_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.29.3&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>Used as a preservative, solvent, thickener, stabilizer, sweetener, and to keep products from freezing. Propylene glycol is hidden in foods, beverages, supplements, oral and topical medications, and body care products. Infants, children, pregnant women, and those with liver\/kidney issues are at an increased risk of toxicity because they have lower levels of an enzyme needed to breakdown propylene glycol. In fact, the EU states propylene glycol is <strong><u>NOT<\/u><\/strong> recommended for children under the age of 4 or pregnant women. Used as a filler in gel caps, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils may increase inflammation in the body, increase weight gain, damage the health of the heart, raises LDL (bad) cholesterol, increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, and may cause the immune system to become overactive.
