What is Micronized? Micronizing is a process that changes the surface area of the iron increasing the iron’s absorbability. Micronizing also makes it completely dispersible in liquids.

What is Microencapsulated? Microencapsulation is a process whereby the iron is encapsulated in a protective coating. This coating prevents the common side effects of iron supplements, like constipation, tummy upset, and gray teeth. Microencapsulation optimizes iron absorption by allowing the iron to travel intact, past the stomach, into the small intestine where iron is readily absorbed. BioFe® iron supplements can be taken at any time because the microencapsulated iron does not compete with other minerals, like calcium, that can inhibit iron absorption.

Ingredients & Dose

Suggested Use: Infants age 0 to Adults, take 1 sachet per day. Take directly by mouth with food, or add to beverage or food and consume immediately. Take a few hours before or after taking other medications, natural health products, or as directed by your physician.

Micronized & microencapsulated elemental iron (iron (III) pyrophosphate)…..30 mg

Non-Medicinal Ingredients: Purified water, xylitol, maize starch, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate (less than 0.2% of total product), sodium bicarbonate, sunflower lecithin.

What is Iron? Iron is an essential mineral needed for mental, physical and emotional development in children. In both adults and children, iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, which transfers oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues to produce energy. Iron is also utilized by the brain to make several neurotransmitters including serotonin, our happy hormone, and melatonin, our sleep hormone. Iron is necessary for lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) to function properly and help fight illness and infections for a healthy immune system.

Iron is crucial for healthy growth and development of infants and children. Low iron negatively affects brain development and can lead to behavioral problems including tantrums, ADHD-like behaviours, and sleep problems. Iron deficiency is also associated with physical development issues like failure to thrive, short stature, and poor grades at school.

How Much Iron Do You Need?

The recommended daily intake for iron is a maintenance dose to help prevent iron deficiency in those with normal iron levels. The daily elemental iron amounts are:

Children 7 months to 13 years – 10 mg iron daily
Girls 14 to 18 years – 15 mg daily
Boys 14 to 18 years – 10 mg daily
Pregnancy – 30 mg daily
Lactating – 10 mg daily

Elemental iron is the total amount of iron absorbed by the body. Always look for the elemental amount of iron in a supplement. If diagnosed with iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia, a healthcare provider will recommend a therapeutic dose as a treatment for anemia. Therapeutic doses are higher than a maintenance dose.
