Fish Oil (Omega-3s)

There are three main types of omega-3: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). ALA is the most common, found in nuts, seeds, and nut/seed oil. DHA is an extremely important nutrient for developing brains and eyes in fetuses and children.

Fish oil contains essential omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Both are essential for brain and eye development, protect the body against inflammation, may reduce the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and support a healthy cardiovascular system. Aside from eating fish regularly, it is very hard to get enough DHA and EPA in the diet. While the body can make small amounts or EPA and DHA by converting the omega-3 ALA, we are not efficient at this conversion and cannot get adequate amounts of DHA or EPA necessary for optimal health especially in children.

Why We Use It

Very few children (or adults) consume enough fatty fish to meet their DHA/EPA needs. The next best way to get this important fatty acid is to supplemnt with fish oil. We source our fish oil from sardines, anchovies, and mackerel, small sustainable fish with short life cycles. Natural lemon, blueberry, and vanilla create a yummy tasting chewable.
