Xylitol

white powdered xylitol, a natural sweetener, on a wooden spoon and piled on a pink surface

Xylitol is an excellent natural alternative to sugar. It is made from the bark of birch trees or non-GMO corn cobs.  Xylitol is also naturally found in small amounts in fruits including plums and strawberries and vegetables like cauliflower. Our body can also naturally make xylitol during the metabolism of carbohydrates.

Xylitol is recommended by dentists. Studies have found it helps prevent tooth decay by reducing the growth of acid causing bacteria, as well as protecting enamel by keeping the pH of the saliva and plaque from becoming too acidic.

Unlike sugar, xylitol has minimal effects on blood sugar or insulin levels making it safe for those with diabetes or prediabetes. Xylitol also shows promise in maintaining bone health by increasing bone density.

Why We Use Xylitol

We at KidStar chose xylitol to sweeten our products because it has wonderful health benefits and it tastes sweet like sugar but without any of the detrimental effects sugar has.
